AKC Companion Animal Recovery:    800.252.7894    The American Kennel Club provides resources for lost dogs that are part of their registry.

ASPCA National Animal Poison Control Center:    888.426.4435    In a life and death situation when every minute counts for your cat, dog or other pet, this 24-hour manned emergency number is your pet lifesaver. $65.00 fee for a consultation with a veterinarian.

Emergency Disaster Hotline:    800.227.4645    Provided by the American Humane Association, this number is your first point of call in earthquake preparedness for your pets or any disaster, what to do and where to go. They provide support and relief information.

Legal Hotline:    800.555.6517    I think my neighbors are abusing their pet. Can I do any thing to stop them? Here is the number to call. To know your rights and how to go about expressing your displeasure, this number is for you. But try not to call because you don't like someone's method of training his or her dog. Animal Legal Defense Fund help with landlord-tenant issues, vet problems, neglect and any form of abuse.

Lyme Disease National Hotline:    800.886.5963    Provides information on how to prevent your pet from getting this deadly tick-borne disease.

Pet Loss Support Hotline:    888.478.7574    This hotline, run by the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, provides a source of emotional support for people who have lost a pet, or who are about to lose a pet. This 24 hour line allows you to leave a message and your call will be returned seven days a week between the hours of 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm, CST and May through August, Wednesdays and Fridays, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, CST. This is a free service.

Pet Travel Resources - Airplanes/Airline Regulation:    800.545.USDA    Before traveling with your pet by taking it on a flight, call this number first with all your questions about transporting your pet, what you'll need to provide or bring with you, etc.

Dr. Feldman is a Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York Licensed Veterinarian and a member of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.
